UUCBV Host Week for Family Promise - Sunday, September 15th - Saturday, September 21st.

Updated: Apr 7, 2020

It is again time to sign up for the UUCBV Family Promise Host Week, September 15th - September 21st.

The most important duties of the Host Church to fill are Preparing Warm Dinners & Acting as an Overnight Host. Dinner Hosts are the ones who actually interact with families, so you might want to be a dinner host as well.

1. Shopper - buys groceries for the week (i.e., breakfast, lunches & snacks) & delivers them to FP by Sunday, September 16th. You will be given a list of items to buy & reimbursed through MSJE funds.

2. Warm Dinners - prepares warm dinners, Sunday-Thursday, September 16 - 20.

3. Dinner Host - assists in serving dinner & mingles with clients from 5:30 - 7 pm, Sunday - Thursday. Often times the person preparing the dinner stays as the dinner host, but this is not required.

4. Overnight Host - sleeps overnight in volunteer room from 8:00 pm to 7 am.

We need to cover Sunday - Saturday, September 16 - 22.

Anyone new who would like to become involved can go through the training in about 15 min. after church.

To sign up, you can just contact me at prljohnson@yahoo.com 832-641-9782, or sign-up at Coffee Hour on Sunday.

Family Promise is a temporary shelter in Bryan

for homeless children and their families.

A Different way to Volunteer at Family Promise. Do you like to play with children for a few hours and then be gone? Well, this is the perfect opportunity for you. FP is in need of a volunteer to hang out with the 6-year-old boy and 10-year-old girl from 3:30-5:30 pm Monday through Friday.  The mom doesn’t get off work until 5:00 and there is no after school care at their schools. This time can be used for homework or card/board game time or TV time. Volunteers typically are not babysitters, however, this is a unique situation. This is a separate position than the front desk volunteer.
