First and foremost, I want to thank everyone who joined us at General Assembly last month, whether you participated in our Faith on Fire for Democracy workshop or our UU the Vote letter writing party. It was electrifying to have people together again in person and virtually.
As you know, our rights and democracy itself are under serious attack. UU the Vote was created in 2020 to organize against white supremacy, fascism, and racism with love, faith, hope and community. While we have celebrated victories, we all still feel the sting of defeat. But we cannot give up. In these moments, we have to keep moving forward. Keep leading with love. Keep organizing everywhere.
We need UU the Vote now more than ever to coordinate with our partners, lead with love and get out the vote in 2022. We have an ambitious goal of speaking to 4 million voters across the country by election day (30 percent more than 2020) and we can’t do it alone. We have partnered with groups like Vote Forward, the Poor People’s Campaign, Power Interfaith in Philadelphia, and most recently, the Environmental Voter Project. Join us as we make voting rights history again in this critical election year!

We also know that we can’t do any of this work without our congregations. Working together, UU the Vote and UU congregations serve as anchors in our local communities and do the work necessary to lead with love and organize at all levels. For all the congregations that are already doing great work, tell us about it and find out how your congregation can honor the late U.S. Representative John Lewis’s civil rights legacy and become a Good Trouble Congregation.
However you want to get involved, there’s a place for you at UU the Vote. We know that the recent loss of constitutionally-protected access to critical reproductive health care services is the next frontline in the fight for our lives and the thriving of our communities. Here are two immediate ways you can support that fight:
Host a(another) Reproductive Justice Sunday in your congregation.
Join a three-part Reproductive Justice Congregational Organizing series from Side With Love’s UPLIFT Action campaign beginning July 21.

JaZahn Hicks, UU the Vote Campaign Manager began organizing just after high school in a school board election in his local community in Southern New Jersey. JaZahn now lives in Philadelphia and continues to organize for justice by connecting UU the Vote with grassroots partners and helping UUs build power in local communities.
