Jesse B. Coon Stewardship Award is presented with great appreciation for commitment, dedication, and loving contributions to the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Brazos Valley.
"Church is a place where you get to practice what it means to be human," James Luther Adams.
With a warm smile and cheerful attitude this person arrived at the church with spouse and two children five and a half years ago and we have been blessed with this family contributing to our congregation ever since. They became members about six months after they first attended.
Moving here to work on a PhD in History, she immediately became involved in church matters. Her passion is religious education and she worked closely with Reverend Donna to increase our children’s participation in our regular worship service. She also worked closely with the RE Director, helping with classes and teaching them when the RE Director was not present. After we went virtual, she set up the curriculum for All-Ages Religious Education online and coordinated it for a time until she stepped down to complete her studies.
She has volunteered for many of our functions such as
coordinating the UNICEF Thanksgiving “Guest at Your Table” collection;
helping with the Halloween party;
leading the RE group in the Crop Walk;
setting up decorations for a Silent Auction;
helping with the hurricane fundraiser; and
acting as a Greeter on Sunday mornings.
Lastly, she and her spouse successfully spearheaded a move toward greater transparency in board actions which led to better communication between board and congregation and to have more frequent Town Hall meetings.
She is one of those people you don’t even have to ask to help. She’s there at the ready.
This year’s Jesse Coon Award goes to Allison Faber.
